The Gift of Membership The gift that gives all year long
Do you have a special co-worker or friend who is also an administrative professi onal? If you’d like to do something special for him or her we have the perfect idea: Give the Gift of Membership. It’s a great way to introduce your friends and co-workers to IAAP. Maybe it’s a way to help that admin that just got laid off, or as a special gift for your son or daughter who is now a part of the profession.
It’s easy to give the Gift of Membership. You can either mail/fax in the Gift of Membership form or call Headquarters with your information, including payment, and the name and contact information of the recipient. After the membership department gets the information, they will send out an e-mail informing the recipient of his or her Gift of Membership. It only takes a few minutes but gives a gift that lasts an entire year.
You can access the forms here: New Gift of Membership Renewal Gift of Membership
Don’t let another day go by. Give the perfect gift, the Gift of Membership.

Building Relationships Theme For Spring IAAP Conference, March 8-10 in Reno
In the business world today, the name of the gam e is building relationships. Outsourcing work functions is common; partnering with other organizations to pool resources is usual; managing an increased workload with less staff depends on a smooth-operating project team; reaching customers (internal and external) through blogs, Tweets, and Plaxo is the rule de jour. And even if you consider yourself interpersonally savvy, it’s guaranteed that nobody’s ever prepared you for the new challenges – they are unprecedented.
So, how does this affect you as an admin? It means that virtually every bullet point in your job description is accomplished in new-fangled ways, especially through collaboration with others. And that nebulous clause in your job description, “And all other duties as assigned” has taken on a whole new meaning.
Join us in Reno March 8-10 and gain skills to: * build alliances inside and outside your organization to create job security in an unsecure environment * take an amorphous admin position and clarify roles with your exec so you can spend more time on high-interest, personally satisfying tasks * engage on-site and off-site colleagues to create buy-in and accountability * turn vendors and suppliers into trusted partners that promote your company and help you cut costs without cutting corners * negotiate like a pro and forge win/win agreements that transform your partners into adjunct staff to meet your company’s changing needs *write requests for proposals that establish your expectations, carve out responsibilities, and solidify a great working relationship that lasts over time * use the social media to the max - to promote your organization (and yourself), expand your customer base, and keep up with business associates for continued professional networking * channel your experience, wisdom, and insights to new and exciting directions while investing in your career potential - in 2010, that’s vital !* strengthen your ability to build relationships (on many levels), achieve company goals, and lead others into today’s innovative community-oriented future.

Certification News
Congratulations to everyone who took the November CPS and CAP exams. You have taken that first step toward attaining professional certification.
Performance Reports will be mailed to candidates approximately 45 days after the examination. For the November 2009 exams, that means we will mail your report from Kansas City around Dec. 22. The Certification Department is not permitted to release Performance Reports via phone, fax or e-mail; we can only send them through the regular mail.
Candidates in the continental United States should allow at least 7-10 days after our mailing for receiving their Performance Report. All other candidates should allow a minimum of two full weeks, depending on how quickly mail generally travels from Missouri to your location.
Should there be an unexpected delay in mailing the Performance Reports, we will place a notice on the IAAP website by December 22 stating the revised expected mailing date. You will not be able to access your Performance Report on the website.
Prior to sending Performance Reports all scores are checked and rechecked through a series of both manual and electronic edits. Performance reported is final. We wish you success in this professional endeavor.
Recertification Reminder If you attained the CPS or CAP rating November 2004, you need to recertify this month to keep that rating active. Your complete packet and fees need to be received in the Certification Department by the last business day of November.
If you attained the CPS rating in December 2004, your recertification packet needs to be received by the end of December.
If you last recertified November or December 2004, the same deadlines apply.
If you were due to recertify in the past 120 days and missed the deadline, there still may be time to submit your packet and keep your rating. Effective Jan. 1, 2009, those CPS and CAP holders who do not recertify by their time limit may have a 120-day grace period to submit their complete recertification paperwork. Those individuals will pay the initial $75 recertification fee plus a $100 late fee.
The current Recertification Application Packet, which includes the application and listing of categories available to gain points, is available on the IAAP website.
There is also a spreadsheet available to assist you in tracking points as you earn them. You will find the recertification spreadsheet on the main website under Professional Development > Certification > Recertification. The spreadsheet should also be included when submitting your completed recertification packet.
Another tool that will help you determine if certain courses can be used for recertification is found here. This provides examples of recertification topics; what counts and what does not.
Don’t let your certification status become inactive. Act now and maintain the ability to list the CPS and/or CAP letters after your name.
If you have questions on certification or recertification contact the Certification Department at 816-891-6600 x2248, 2225, or 2227; or e-mail your questions to certification@iaap-hq.org.
